EmiratesGBC Adds Sustainable Manufacturer Category To 2024 MENA Green Building Awards

The 12th edition of the MENA Green Building Awards 2024, hosted by the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) in collaboration with MENA Green Building Councils, marked a milestone in the region’s commitment to sustainability. The event, held at JW Marriott Marina Dubai, celebrated private and public sector entities as well as green building professionals who have made significant contributions to sustainable development in the MENA region.

The award ceremony was attended by over 200 stakeholders from academia, the private and public sectors, and sustainability enthusiasts. This year’s awards saw a significant increase in both applications and attendees, with 85 entries from eight countries: UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria. The entries were evaluated by a panel of 42 expert judges, highlighting the growing focus on sustainable practices within the built environment.

A major highlight was the introduction of a new category, Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year, which was awarded to Saint-Gobain for its commitment to becoming a global leader in light and sustainable construction. Another notable award, the Doctor Owainati Students Excellence Award, was presented to Mohamed Farmaan Abdul Khader for his research on “Performance Assessment of Buoyant Shrouded Wind Turbines: A Computational Study.” In addition to the honor, Khader received a cash prize and a year’s free student membership at EmiratesGBC.

The awards ceremony recognized outstanding achievements across 16 categories, ranging from design and construction to operations, showcasing the diverse range of green building practices in the region. It was a powerful reminder of the innovative steps being taken to promote a more sustainable future. This event not only celebrated the progress made but also underscored the need for continued efforts to drive green initiatives and create a resilient, sustainable future for all.
