PCL has been awarded a $600 million contract by the U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission to rehabilitate and expand the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant in San Diego. PCL, which is headquartered in Denver but based in Canada, has selected Edmonton-based Stantec to lead the design work.
The project aims to enhance the plant’s infrastructure and increase its treatment capacity from 25 million to 50 million gallons per day, with a peak capacity of 75 million gallons per day. The facility will remain operational throughout the design and construction phases.
The first phase, costing $42.4 million, involves Stantec’s design work, expected to be completed within 20 months. Construction is anticipated to take about five years. Ankur Talwar of PCL emphasized their extensive experience in wastewater construction, highlighting their expertise in managing large-scale projects.
