Sinoma Roofing Systems, a subsidiary of China National Building Material Group Corporation, has inaugurated a new factory in Machakos County, Kenya, aiming to meet the local demand for affordable, eco-friendly, and durable roofing materials.
The factory, whose construction commenced last year, is set to produce four million stone-coated roofing tiles and three million meters of iron sheets annually, according to Wu Shuang, the company’s general manager. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance Kenya’s manufacturing capabilities by providing high-quality roofing solutions tailored to local needs.
Speaking at the factory launch on June 18, Wu emphasized Sinoma’s commitment to delivering cost-effective and reliable materials for the Kenyan market. He highlighted the longevity of their roofing tiles, designed to endure nearly 60 years while withstanding severe weather conditions such as strong winds and natural disasters. Moreover, these products are noted for their ease of installation and use of recyclable materials, aligning with environmental sustainability goals.
In addition to manufacturing, the factory plans to play a pivotal role in local skills development. Wu announced that the facility will serve as an educational hub, offering training to students on advanced roofing technologies. This initiative aims to equip Kenyan youth with expertise in innovative roofing systems, thereby supporting both employment growth and technological advancement in the region.
Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti expressed her optimism about the factory’s potential impact, particularly in transferring technical skills to the local workforce. She emphasized the importance of adapting roofing technologies to diverse climatic and environmental conditions across Kenya. Governor Ndeti also underscored the factory’s role in supporting the country’s ambitious housing agenda, which seeks to provide affordable housing units in urban centers and metropolitan areas.
The launch of Sinoma’s new factory in Machakos County comes at a critical juncture for Kenya, aligning with national efforts to promote sustainable development and economic growth through innovative manufacturing solutions. As the factory begins its operations, it is poised to not only meet market demand but also contribute to Kenya’s journey towards achieving its housing and environmental sustainability goals.
