Skanska has secured a $450 million contract with the Massachusetts Port Authority for construction improvements at Boston’s Logan Airport’s Terminal E, announced on December 13. The project involves constructing a new 725,000-square-foot parking garage with 5,000 spaces, to be built atop an existing parking lot in front of Terminal E. To make space for the garage, Skanska will demolish portions of the departures level viaduct.
Construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the garage expected to be completed by 2028. The project will also include a new vehicular bridge linking the garage to the central parking complex, as well as a pedestrian bridge connecting the garage to terminals E and C. Modifications to the arrival and departure roadways will also be made to ensure access to the new garage.
In line with sustainability efforts, Skanska plans to install photovoltaic panels on the garage’s façade and roof to offset electricity consumption. The project aims to achieve Parksmart certification from the Green Building Certification Institute, emphasizing energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
