Highwire Launches AI Safety Risk Analytics, Revolutionizing Contractor Management

Highwire, the contractor success platform for capital project construction and operations, unveiled new safety risk analytics on August 14. This innovative feature leverages advanced artificial intelligence to enhance risk assessment and management, aiming to improve safety outcomes and operational efficiency in construction projects. These new capabilities offer deep insights into contractor risk through sophisticated AI analysis of safety documentation. This development significantly enhances contractor safety risk management, providing a more accurate and advanced contractor assessment.

The new AI features build on Highwire’s commitment to transcending basic pass/fail contractor management, focusing instead on contractor success. By offering detailed insights into the context and quality of safety programs, Highwire enables clients to make more informed decisions and assist contractors in improving their operations. This approach is crucial in a market where the supply of skilled labor is limited. Owners and general contractors cannot afford to exclude contractors based solely on past performance; instead, collaboration is necessary to enhance contractor safety.

According to Highwire Chairman and CEO Don Fornes, the goal of safety analytics is not just to assess risk but to foster contractor success by promoting collaboration that drives continuous improvement in construction safety. By providing valuable feedback on safety programs and management systems, Highwire helps companies enhance safety standards, build stronger partnerships, and expand the pool of qualified contractors.

Highwire’s new safety risk analytics capabilities include:

  • In-depth, contextual analysis of safety management systems and programs
  • Insights categorizing programs as General, Detailed, or Comprehensive
  • Proactive risk identification, facilitating mitigation strategies before work begins

Research published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine highlights the benefits of comprehensive safety programs, showing that evaluating subcontractors using leading indicators can significantly reduce injury rates in construction. Specifically, improved safety management systems were linked to a 34% decrease in the odds of recordable incidents and a 28% decrease in the odds of DART (Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred) incidents.

Highwire’s Chief Safety Officer, David Tibbetts, emphasized that the platform’s approach is not just about identifying risk but about enabling EHS professionals to shift from managing risks to mitigating them. By delivering detailed insights into contractors’ safety programs, Highwire aims to help clients create safer, more productive work environments.
